Nigeria’s Inflation Drops to 15.91% in June as Price Pressures Ease
By Peace Erewunmi
Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 15.91 per cent in June 2026, marking a further easing in the pace of rising consumer prices and offering fresh signs of improving macroeconomic stability. The latest figure was released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its June Consumer Price Index (CPI) report.
According to the NBS, the decline reflects a slowdown in the rate at which prices of goods and services increased compared to previous months. While prices are still rising, they are doing so at a slower pace, indicating a moderation in inflationary pressures across the economy.
The report attributed the easing inflation rate to improvements in food supply, relative stability in the foreign exchange market, and the impact of ongoing fiscal and monetary policy measures aimed at curbing inflation.
Food inflation, which has remained a major driver of the country’s overall inflation, also recorded a decline during the month. Lower price increases for key food items contributed significantly to the moderation in the headline inflation figure.
Economic analysts say the latest data could strengthen investor confidence and provide some relief to households and businesses that have grappled with prolonged high prices. However, they cautioned that sustaining the downward trend would depend on continued improvements in food production, security, exchange rate stability, and prudent economic management.
The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have repeatedly stated their commitment to implementing policies that promote price stability, economic growth, and improved living standards for Nigerians.
