The Ekiti State Government will on Monday commence the distribution of subsidised agrochemicals to farmers across the state as part of its ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity, improve food security and support smallholder farmers during the current farming season.

The initiative, to be implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is aimed at making quality agrochemicals more affordable and accessible to genuine farmers. The programme forms part of the state’s broader agricultural support strategy, which includes land clearing, subsidised farm inputs and fertiliser distribution.

According to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, the government has partnered with reputable agrochemical companies to ensure that only genuine and high-quality products are supplied to beneficiaries. He said farmers will be required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and details of their farm locations to benefit from the scheme, a measure intended to ensure transparency and prevent diversion of the inputs.

The government urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the subsidised agrochemicals to increase crop yields and enhance food production across the state. It also warned against the resale or diversion of the products, stressing that the programme is designed solely to support genuine farmers.

The distribution exercise underscores the administration’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector, improving farmers’ livelihoods and ensuring sustainable food production in Ekiti State.
