Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), have foiled an attempted mass abduction by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the school, which is currently being used by the Borno State Government as temporary hostel accommodation for students of the Federal Polytechnic, Monguno. Security forces engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, preventing them from carrying out the planned abduction.

Military authorities confirmed that 46 students were successfully rescued during the operation. However, they disclosed that some students were fatally struck by sporadic gunfire during the exchange with the terrorists, while several others sustained injuries and were taken to medical facilities for treatment.

Following the attack, troops launched a pursuit of the fleeing insurgents and intensified security operations in and around Monguno. The military also said investigations were underway to identify and apprehend individuals suspected of collaborating with the attackers.

Operation HADIN KAI expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and reassured residents that efforts to protect schools and other vulnerable communities in the North-East would be strengthened as the military continues its campaign against insurgent groups.
