NBA President-Elect Badejo-Okusanya Denies Ties to Tinubu Government, States Condition for Resignation

President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata Badejo-Okusanya, has dismissed allegations that he is a candidate of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, insisting that his loyalty is to the legal profession and the rule of law.
Responding to claims of political affiliation, Badejo-Okusanya stated that he was elected by members of the NBA through a democratic process and not sponsored by the Federal Government. He maintained that the independence of the association remains non-negotiable and pledged to protect its integrity.
He further declared that he would only consider resigning if credible evidence is produced showing that he accepted instructions, influence or control from the Tinubu administration in the discharge of his duties as NBA President. According to him, no such evidence exists because he has never acted on behalf of the government.
The NBA President-elect also assured members of the association that his administration would be guided by the principles of justice, professionalism, accountability and the rule of law. He emphasized that the NBA would continue to hold governments and public institutions accountable regardless of political affiliation.
His remarks come amid heightened public debate over the recently concluded NBA elections and allegations of political interference, claims that have continued to generate discussions within the legal community and the wider public.
