The United States Government has condemned the killing of nine family members of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a Plateau State-based cleric, and called on Nigerian authorities to ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested and brought to justice. The attack, which occurred in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, has drawn international attention amid renewed concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

In a statement issued by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs, Washington described the killings as “horrific” and expressed deep concern over the continued violence targeting Christian communities and other vulnerable populations in the region. The U.S. extended its condolences to the victims’ families and stressed the need for urgent measures to prevent similar attacks.

The U.S. also noted that senior American officials had recently raised concerns about the security situation with Nigerian authorities during diplomatic engagements in Abuja. It urged the Federal Government to strengthen security, protect vulnerable communities and ensure that perpetrators of violent attacks are held accountable.

Rev. Dachomo had earlier disclosed that nine of his relatives, including women and children, were killed during an attack on their community. He also alleged that he later received death threats from suspected attackers following the incident.

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to working with Nigeria to combat terrorism, counter violent extremism and promote religious freedom, while urging sustained efforts to protect all Nigerians regardless of their faith or background.
