Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has achieved a major academic milestone by breaking into Nigeria’s top 20 universities and emerging as the third-best state university in the 2026 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.

According to the latest rankings, UNIOSUN’s improved position reflects its growing reputation in research, academic excellence, digital visibility and global impact. The institution’s performance places it among the leading higher education institutions in Nigeria and highlights its commitment to quality teaching, innovation and knowledge dissemination.

The university’s management described the achievement as a testament to the collective efforts of its academic and non-academic staff, students, alumni and stakeholders who have contributed to strengthening the institution’s research output and online presence.

The Vice-Chancellor commended members of the university community for their dedication and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to sustaining academic excellence, promoting impactful research and expanding collaborations with local and international partners.

Webometrics, published by the Cybermetrics Lab of the Spanish National Research Council, evaluates universities based on indicators including research excellence, visibility, openness and the global impact of their academic publications.

The latest ranking is expected to further enhance UNIOSUN’s reputation, attract more partnerships and strengthen its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.
