Tinubu Sets Agenda for Adeleke After Osun Victory, Demands Unity, Growth
By Peace Erewunmi
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election and urged him to use his renewed mandate to promote unity, stability and development across the state.
Adeleke of the Accord Party was declared the winner of Saturday’s Osun governorship election after securing 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Reacting to the outcome on Sunday, President Tinubu described Adeleke’s victory as a reaffirmation of democratic rule and the will of the people of Osun State.
Tinubu Urges Adeleke to Unite Osun
The President urged the governor to use his second term to bring the people of Osun together, regardless of political affiliation.
Tinubu called on Adeleke to focus on policies that would promote growth, stability and socio-economic progress across the state.
According to the President, the participation of the various candidates and the conduct of the election contributed to Nigeria’s democratic culture.
He also commended the people of Osun State for participating in the electoral process and described the outcome as a reflection of the electorate’s choice.
A Call for Development
Tinubu urged Adeleke to use the next four years to deepen development in Osun State and improve the well-being of residents.
The President’s message comes as Adeleke prepares to begin another four-year term after defeating Oyebamiji and other candidates in the closely contested election.
Tinubu’s call for unity also comes against the backdrop of an intense campaign season that featured sharp political disagreements among the major parties and candidates.
Adeleke Extends Olive Branch
In his own reaction following the victory, Adeleke also called for peace and unity across Osun State.
The governor extended an olive branch to his opponents and urged residents to put the tensions of the campaign period behind them.
Adeleke said his second-term administration would build on its achievements while correcting areas where it fell short during his first term.
He also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
The governor said his administration would work towards accelerating development and widening the reach of good governance across Osun State.
With the election now concluded, attention shifts to Adeleke’s second term and whether his administration can deliver on the expectations of voters while responding to Tinubu’s call for unity, stability and economic progress.
