Ogun Police Bust Alleged Baby Factory in Mowe, Rescue Two Pregnant Women, Four Children, Arrest Six

The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged illegal “baby factory” in Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects linked to suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
The operation was carried out at about 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, by operatives of the Mowe Division following sustained intelligence on the activities of a suspected trafficking syndicate.
According to the police, operatives stormed the syndicate’s alleged hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, where they rescued two pregnant women and four children.
The rescued women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
The four children recovered from the premises comprised two boys and two girls.
Six Suspects Arrested
Police said six suspects were arrested during the operation.
They were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and Oseni Kusamotu Idaya, an attending nurse.
The command said preliminary investigations indicated that the facility had allegedly been used for human trafficking and illegal adoption activities over time.
Newborn Baby Missing
In a related development, police said further intelligence led operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
According to the police, Effiong was receiving medical treatment at the hospital when officers arrived, but the whereabouts of her newborn could not be established.
The attending nurse was subsequently arrested as investigators intensified efforts to locate the missing infant.
The development has added another dimension to the investigation, with the police vowing to establish what happened to the newborn and determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities.
Investigation Continues
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The police said the investigation would focus on identifying all persons involved in the alleged operation, locating the missing newborn and determining the culpability of the arrested suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives of the Mowe Division for what he described as their prompt response and operational efficiency.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other crimes across Ogun State.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious activities, particularly those involving vulnerable women and children.
As investigations continue, authorities are expected to establish the full extent of the alleged baby-trafficking operation and account for the missing newborn.
