A Lesson From Life and Death: We Are Here Only for a While

The news of the burial of veteran Nigerian Juju singer, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as Saint Janet, is a painful reminder of one of the greatest realities of life: no matter who we are, where we come from or what we achieve, our time on earth is temporary.
Saint Janet has been laid to rest amid tears in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following her death on August 1, 2026.
Family members, friends, colleagues and fans gathered to honour and say their final goodbyes.
Moments like this often leave us with questions that go beyond death itself.
They remind us to reflect on life.
They remind us that the things we spend our time pursuing today may one day be left behind.
Our positions.
Our wealth.
Our popularity.
Our achievements.
And even the applause of the world.
Life is temporary.
For Christians, this is one of the truths repeatedly emphasised in the Bible: our lives on earth are not forever, and there is a greater reality beyond this world.
This is why death should make us reflect.
Not necessarily with fear, but with purpose.
How are we living?
What will we be remembered for?
What impact are we making in the lives of others?
And most importantly, are we preparing for eternity?
Every time we lose someone, we are reminded that tomorrow is not promised.
We may make plans for the future, and it is good to do so. But we must also remember to live intentionally today.
To love people.
To forgive.
To make peace.
To do good.
And to recognise that life itself is a gift.
For those who dismiss biblical teachings about life and eternity, moments like this can serve as an opportunity for deeper reflection.
Death remains one reality that wealth, fame, education and human achievement cannot permanently prevent.
One day, every human being will leave this world.
The question is not whether that day will come.
The question is whether we are living our lives with an understanding that this earth is not our final destination.
As we mourn Saint Janet and remember her contributions to the Nigerian music industry, may her passing also remind every one of us of the value of life and the importance of living with purpose.
May we not become so occupied with the temporary things of this world that we forget to prepare for eternity.
May we live lives that matter.
And may we leave behind more than memories.
May God grant everyone she left behind the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss. May her loved ones find comfort during this difficult time.
