By Erewunmi Peace

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Hon. Nnanna Uzor Kalu as a Commissioner representing the South-East geopolitical zone on the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday, July 31, 2025, at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, just before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Background:

Nnanna Uzor Kalu, a former member of the House of Representatives who served from 2003 to 2007 representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, was nominated by President Tinubu and confirmed by the Senate in May 2025 after successfully clearing all committee screenings and petitions.

His appointment is part of the President’s efforts to ensure balanced regional representation and strengthen the administrative capacity of the National Assembly through the NASC, which oversees human resources, budgeting, and general service operations for Nigeria’s federal legislature.

“With this swearing-in, the South-East zone now has official representation in the National Assembly Service Commission,” said a presidential source.

About NASC:

The National Assembly Service Commission is responsible for:

Appointments, promotions, and discipline of staff of the National Assembly.

Administrative oversight of the legislative workforce.

Ensuring operational efficiency within Nigeria’s bicameral legislature.

Other Developments:

The ceremony was witnessed by senior government officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, and directors from the Presidency. Kalu now joins other recently sworn-in commissioners to support legislative governance under the Tinubu administration.
