Doctors in Kogi State are celebrating as Governor Usman Ododo has approved a ₦300,000 special monthly allowance for medical professionals working in government-owned hospitals.

The announcement, confirmed by multiple sources on Monday, is aimed at motivating health workers and strengthening the state’s medical sector. Governor Ododo said the new allowance will serve as a special package for doctors in the state civil service.

According to reports, the initiative is expected to improve welfare for doctors and address the challenges of brain drain, which has seen many healthcare professionals leaving Nigeria in search of better opportunities abroad.

The governor assured that his administration remains committed to supporting the health sector and ensuring residents of Kogi State have access to quality healthcare services.

Local media outlets such as TVC News and Legit.ng report that the ₦300,000 will be paid monthly in addition to doctors’ existing salaries and entitlements.

“This allowance is part of my administration’s commitment to the welfare of medical personnel. We will continue to create incentives to retain our best talents in the state,” Governor Ododo was quoted as saying.

The move comes at a time when many states are facing strikes and protests from health workers over poor remuneration and working conditions. Analysts say the decision could serve as a model for other states to follow.
