Convicted Kidnapper, Evans, Re-Arraigned Over Police Officers’ Killing

By Erewunmi Peace

The Lagos State Government has re-arraigned convicted kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, over the alleged murder of two police officers.

Evans was re-arraigned alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, before Justice Oyindamola Ogala, on fresh charges bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

According to the new charge sheet, the offence was allegedly committed on August 27, 2013, at 7th Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos, where two police officers, Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi, were reportedly killed around 10 p.m.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case was previously handled by Justice Adenike Coker before being reassigned to Justice Ogala.

Prosecutors from the Lagos State Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) stated that the offences contravene Sections 223 and 230 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Justice Ogala adjourned the matter to November 19, 2025, for the commencement of trial and ordered that witness summons be issued to ensure the appearance of all relevant parties.

Evans, who gained notoriety in 2017 after being arrested for leading a high-profile kidnapping syndicate, is currently serving a life sentence following his earlier conviction for kidnapping and armed robbery.
