Wabara: Some Want PDP Dead Till 2031, But Convention Must Hold
By Erewunmi Peace
Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has said that the party’s national convention must take place despite internal disagreements and ongoing disputes.
Speaking on Wednesday, Wabara expressed concern that some party members appear to be working against the PDP, stating that “some want the party dead till 2031.” He added, however, that the convention remains necessary to maintain the party’s organizational and democratic processes.
“The convention must hold. As far as party organs are concerned, nothing can stop it except a court order. We have challenges, some self-inflicted, but we must continue,”
Wabara said.
He emphasised that while internal frictions exist, the PDP’s leadership is committed to resolving disputes and ensuring that the convention is conducted transparently and within party guidelines.
Wabara also warned that the party should avoid actions that could weaken it ahead of upcoming elections, insisting that political ambitions should not override the interest of the PDP.
Several media outlets, including Vanguard and The Nation, reported Wabara’s remarks, highlighting his call for unity and adherence to party processes amid tensions among factions.
